Chess growth in Iran after Revolution faster than global average

Tehran, February 9, IRNA - Chairman of the Chess Federation Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh said the titles and youth outcomes of Iran's chess in Asian tournaments and the world affirms the fact that Iran's chess growth is far beyond the global average.

Pahlevanzadeh made the remarks in an interview to provide an analytical outline of the achievements of this federation after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Despite the fact that after the Islamic Revolution a decade of stagnation had passed after the Islamic Revolution, the historic fatwa of the founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam khomeini and long-term investments in this field led Iran to rank 23th from 56th in less than four years.

Pahlavanzadeh emphasized that Iran had undoubtedly achieved great success in various sports after the victory of the glorious Islamic Revolution of Iran. “In the field of chess and before the massive movement of the Iranian people, players with international ratings did not exceed the number of fingers, and none of the players won the title of 'Grandmaster', the highest title in this field, and Iran had only three Grandmasters.”, he noted.

At the same time, the Iranian official stated, 'But in the current situation and at the end of the fourth decade of the Revolution, this number increased to 15 male Grandmasters, five female Grandmasters, 22 international male masters and four international female masters.' Ehsan Qaem Maqami and Shadi Paridar are the first Grandmaster of men and women in Iranian chess history.'

Chief of the Chess Federation emphasized, 'Two runners-up in Asian champions by Qaeem Maqami and Tabataba'i, Asian chess team championship in 2018, Parham Maqsodlou Championship World Junior Chess Champion in 2018, Massoud Mossadeqpour championship in 2017 Asian Junior, Sara Sadat Khadem ul-Sharieh in the 2018 World Championships in Rapid and Women’s World Blitz Championship and a total of the two championships, the Championship of Alireza Firoozjah in the Asian Blitz Division, Firoozjah Medal in the 2018 Under-16 Olympiad , Earning two championship titles under-16 in 2015 and 2016 teams are among the honors the chess achieved after revolution.'
