Russian politician urges Tehran, Moscow to have military base in Indian Ocean

Moscow, Feb 8, IRNA - Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia urged Iran and Russia to launch a military base in the Indian Ocean.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Zhirinovsky said Iran and Russia should have a joint military base in Indian Ocean coasts.

Iranian navy forces should maintain cooperation with Russian Black Sea Fleet, he added.

Iranian and Russian cruisers will be able to watch enemies’ ships like those of US and NATO member states, he noted.

Zhirinovsky went on to say that both countries should establish joint banks soon to develop trade ties.

Underling the importance of maintaining good relations between the two countries, he urged Russia to give any arms to Iran.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to US sanctions against Iran and Russia, saying Iran will be able to export its oil and gas to China and Europe through Russia.

Referring to international North-South corridor between Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan and India, Zhirinovsky said it will improve commercial interactions between us.

He went on to say that Iran and Russia are fighting against US aggression in Syria.

The Russian leader said no country is allowed to intervene in Iran internal affairs.

Zhirinovsky also described the upcoming meeting in Warsaw as violation of the international regulations, saying any conference which is aimed to discuss Iran’s issues in the absence of Iran is of no importance and will have no effect.

Iran and Russia are capable of establishing relations in tourism, commercial, economic, military and scientific fields.

Referring to the Caspian Sea as a great field for developing cooperation, Zhirinovsky said some parts of the goods which are exported through the Caspian Sea will be transported through Iran and will increase Iran transit income as a result.

He also praised the efforts made by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), saying they will be able to have cooperation with Federal Security Service, National Guard of Russia and Foreign Intelligence Service.
