2.1 tons of drugs seized in SE Iran

Zahedan, Feb 7, IRNA – The Iranian police confiscated about 2.1 tons of narcotics in the city of Saravan, in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran, said the provincial police commander on Thursday.

'The police seized a band of traffickers who intended to transfer this large amount of narcotics to the central parts of Iran,' said Brigadier-General Mohammad Qanbari.

General Qanbari added that the police confiscated 2.52 tons of opium, 96 kilograms of Morphine and 1 kilograms of hashish, which were loaded on a Totoya.

Three drug traffickers were arrested, and two Kalashnikovs with their ammunitions confiscated, he added.

Iran as the country neighboring Afghanistan and Pakistan is a transit route for drug-traffickers. Many Iranian soldiers are killed every year in the fight against the drug trafficking.
