Bahraini activist: Iran's Islamic Revolution inspiring

London, Feb 6, IRNA- A Bahraini political activist says Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution has inspired popular revolutions in the world.

“The Islamic Revolution is the biggest modern movement in the contemporary history that is still being used as a source of inspiration for other popular revolts around the globe,” Saeed Shehabi, director of London-based Abrar Islamic Foundation (Abrar House) told IRNA on Wednesday.

Shehabi, who is also secretary-general of Bahrain’s Freedom Movement, explained that the Islamic Revolution “has inspired not only the Bahraini nation but also the Arab Spring.”

Since February 2011, Bahrain is grappling with a popular anti-government uprising that demands freedom, justice, freely-elected government and the release of political prisoners.

“Widespread popular support was Imam Khomeini’s most important tool against the Shah regime,” added Shehabi, saying, “Imam Khomeini managed to lead millions of people.”

He called on all freedom movements in the world to “study the history and management of Imam Khomeini in leading the Revolution to victory.”
