Election in Iran, important asset of religious democracy: Top MP

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA – Majlis (Parliament) speaker on Tuesday termed election in Iran as “an important asset of religious democracy” achieved after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Speaking at the Majlis open session this morning, Ali Larijani said that people directly or indirectly choose the country’ officials through election.

Larijani went on to say that election is a great social and political capital for the nation that should be preserved.

The great Iranian nation did the great historic work in Feb 1979 and gained victory over the then dictatorial regime, said the top lawmaker.

He added that the Islamic Revolution destroyed US hegemony, led to the establishment of democracy and brought an important message to the regional dictators.

The dictators have been united against the Islamic Republic of Iran since forty years ago as the Islamic Revolution under the leadership of the late Imam Khomeini shook their pillars, Larijani said.

He added that the Islamic Revolution further awakened the regional nations as the recent regional developments have prove the issue.

Despite the enemies’ adventurism, Iran has achieved high-level military and nuclear technologies during the past four decades, Larijani stressed.
