Yemen says people oppose foriegn troops presence in country

Tehran, 3 Feb, IRNA - A Yemen foreign ministry official says the Yemeni nation opposes the presence of any foreign troops in the Arab country.

'Preserving the national sovereignty is a political and popular will,' an official at Yemen's foreign ministry told Yemen News Agency (SABA), reacting to British Ambassador Michael Aron's remarks who had stressed that Yemeni government should decide about the presence of foreign troops.

'Aron has forgotten that one of the reasons that military actions against aggressors and mercenaries have continued is because that Yemeni nation opposes presence of any foreign troops on Yemeni soil,' he added.

The unnamed official added that the first priority is to reach a comprehensive and durable peace to create a united Yemen that will later decide about all issues as stated in United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Following the US green light, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led a coalition of Arab countries against the poorest country in the Arab world in 2015 with the excuse to restore the resigned president to power.

More than 16,000 innocent Yemenis have been killed since the aggression and many infrastructure has been destroyed.
