US withdrawal will bring security back to region: Iran envoy

Beijing, Feb 2, IRNA - The US withdrawal from Syria and Afghanistan will bring back the security to our region, Iran's envoy to China says.

'To be frank, the US withdrawal from the region, not just Syria but also other countries like Afghanistan, will help restore security to the region,' Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh was quoted as saying by the Chinese daily Global Times.

'I have a suggestion for the US which has been building military bases in other regions for so many years,' said the Iranian envoy who went on to announce his proposal: 'It should try not to interfere in the Middle East for 10 years. Let's see if the region's security returns to its original state.'

The Global Times interviewed Keshavarzzadeh as Iran is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Islamic Revolution that took place in 1979.

Keshavarzzadeh, who has recently been appointed as the head of the Iranian diplomatic mission in Beijing, described his priority as 'deepening of relations between Iran and China, not only in the economic level but also in cultural and political issues as well.'

'Iran and China complement each other in many ways. As for economic cooperation, there is still a lot of potential to explore,' highlighted the Iranian diplomat.
