32 Palestinian wounded by Israeli fire in Gaza

Tehran, Feb 1, IRNA - Thirty-two Palestinians were wounded by Israeli live fire on Friday during a weekly protest near the fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israel, the Gaza Health Ministry said.

Two paramedics were also said to have been wounded by tear gas canisters fired by the Israeli military.

Meanwhile, Gaza media reported that Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh met on Friday with an Egyptian intelligence official and the United Nations' Middle East envoy Nickolay Mladenov.

Last week Qatari aid funds began being transferred to Gaza via the Erez border crossing in the northern Strip. Some 94,000 families in need are due to receive $400 each in four installments over the upcoming months.

In the last week's protest at the border, the Gaza Health Ministry said 25-year-old Ehab Attallah Hussein Abed died after being shot by Israeli forces east of the southern city of Rafah. At least 20 others were wounded as thousands of protesters marched near the border, some throwing grenades and stones at Israeli soldiers.
