5 Iranian sailors back home after months of UAE custody

Bushehr, Feb 1, IRNA – Five Iranian sailors, who were in the United Arab Emirate (UAE)'s custody for months, returned home, a local official said.

Due to the efforts, made by Iranian embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Foreign Ministry office in Bushehr, five sailors were released and returned home on Thursday evening, Kimia Zare, an official affiliated to the Foreign Ministry office in the region said.

Speaking to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Zare said nine Iranian sailors were arrested on September 5, 2018, by the UAE coast guard and the Foreign Ministry would pursue release of other sailors in custody.

In an attack to the Iranian vessel sailing in the Persian Gulf, one sailor was killed, two others were injured and all the sailors on board were arrested by the UAE coast guard.
