Iran’s railway set to join Afghanistan

Tabriz, Jan 30, IRNA – Iran’s railway set to join Afghanistan as a linking railway between the two countries is under construction, according to Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Kheirollah Khademi.

Speaking to reporters in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, Khademi said that the railway linking northeastern city of Khaf to Herat in Afghanistan will be 207 kilometers long.

He said that the construction project of the railway has progressed well.

Some 76 km of this railway is in the Iranian soil, the official said, adding that Iran is also committed to implement 62 km of the railway in Afghanistan, the substructure operation of which has ended.

Afghan government is responsible for implementing the remaining 69 km of the project, he said.
