SPV should not be politicized: Senior MP

Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA - A prominent Iranian lawmaker expressed the hope that delay in the delivery and implementation of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by the European Union is not related to political bargains.

Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said on Wednesday that Europe has declared that it will finalize its offer for the SPV package to the Islamic Republic of Iran by the end of the week, but it will take some time to be implemented.

He added that the announcement and operationalization of the SPV in Iran has been too late for which one cannot have strategic calculations.

In response to the question of what benefits and financial resources the SPV will bring to the country, the parliamentarian said, “We need to see the text of the SPV as well as the process of its implementation; it should take a while after the implementation of the EU's special financial mechanism to maintain Iran Deal and then let's look at this; the SPV's implementation process may be subject to power-based challenges.
