Iran, India to expedite cooperation at Chabahar Port

Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA – The arrival of first Indian ship carrying commercial containers to Chabahar Port of Iran was a subject for a Indian newspaper and it stated that the full operation of Chabahar Port by India and Iran is moving fast.

In an attempt to establish a new communication link between Indian ports and Chabahar Port of Iran, the Indian Times wrote that Iran is seeking to build its gas pipeline and rail link to Zahedan to increase its strategic activities in Chabahar.

Iran is looking to build a 200-kilometer gas pipeline from Iranshahr to Chabahar and a 500-kilometer railway from Chabahar to Zahedan, the daily wrote, to boost export infrastructures and form a free trade zone.

In order to accelerate the completion of Chabahar Port project, the government of India has devoted a full line of credit line fees to be spent on construction of 100 kilometers of the railroad after comprehensive study and is scheduled to be completed in March.

Chabahar Port in the Oman Sea facilitates India's access to Afghanistan through the sea. The Indian government is committed to investing $500 million in development of Chabahar, as well as an investment of $ 1.5 billion to build a series of roads and railroads in this area.
