Iran ready to help Iraqi reconstruction

Baghdad, Jan 29, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi on Tuesday voiced Iran’s readiness for assisting Iraqi reconstruction and solve problems facing refugees, saying that readiness has been acknowledged to the Iraqi government and UN envoy in the country.

In a meeting with a number of tribal chieftains of Al-Anbar, Salahuddin and Baghdad provinces in Iran’s Embassy in the capital city, he said that Iran will not spare any efforts to aid the Iraqi reconstruction as well as the refugees facing problems.

“Iraqi refugees, especially those in Nineveh, Salahuddin and Al-Anbar provinces are our brothers and sisters,” he said.

As Iran stayed alongside Iraq in the fight against Daesh (the ISIS), it will not leave it alone in reconstruction phase too, he said.

“Iran has submitted application for official inauguration of consulate in Mosul and visa revocation to the Iraqi government,” he said, noting that if they are approved, they will help further improvement of relations.

“Exports of 3,200 megawatts of electricity, building biggest power plant in north of Basra with a capacity of 3,000 megawatts, commercial exchanges worth of 10 billion dollars are among Iran’s practical measures to meet Iraqi needs,” Masjedi said.

Iran favors a strong, secure, beautiful and advanced Iraq, as its power, security and beauty is power, he said.

Chairman of Iraqi Council of Elders Seyyed Aqil Al-Khatib, for his part, said that after defeat of Daesh, tribal sensitivities and Shia-Sunni disputes have gone away in Iraq.

He further noted that the Iraqi delegation is in Iran’s embassy to convey a beautiful message that the Iranian and Iraqi nations are one and united.
