Kuwait backs Qatar's closeness to Iran: Kuwaiti deputy FM

Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA – Kuwait supports Qatar's approach to get close to Iran, said Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled al-Jarallah.

Kuwait supports its Qatari brothers' policy to get close to Iran, Turkey and Iraq, said al-Jarallah on the sidelines of the Indian National Day ceremony held in the Indian embassy in Kuwait on Tuesday, according to Khalij al-Jadid (the new Khalij) Arabic-language website.

Dhoha has the right to establish ties with any country desires, but the relations shouldn’t be interpreted as its alienation from the Persian Gulf states.

Earlier, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Deputy Prime Minister and Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, had said that Iran is a neighbor of ours and part of the regional geography and hoped that the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council would have positive and constructive talks with Iran.

The Kuwaiti deputy foreign minister said that there is no sign showing the problem between Qatar and Persian Gulf Cooperation Council that sanctioned it would be solved soon.

Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has made remarks implying the same idea before.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates accused Qatar to support terrorism on June 2017, cut their ties with it, and closed their sea, land, and air ways with Qatar. Later, they issued a statement proposing 13 conditions for re-establishing ties with Qatar, one of which was cutting relations with Iran.

This was while Doha had demanded unconditional talks.
