Iran dismisses any link between Araqchi's tour & SPV

Tehran, Jan 28, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman rejected any relations between Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi's current tour to Europe and implementation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

Addressing the Monday press conference, Bahram Qasemi said that Araqchi's trip is within the framework of consultations with three European countries and also with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Araqchi is scheduled to hold meetings with his European counterparts and the foreign ministers of the three countries.

He will discuss bilateral ties, regional and international developments.

Holding meeting with Yukiya Amano, Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over the latest cooperation as regard Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is also on Araqchi's itinerary.

In response to a question as regard SPV, he said Iran has never been waiting for Europe's financial mechanism.

It is better to wait to see what Europe will announce and how it will compensate for the delay.

SPV, also known as Special Purpose Vehicle, is a financial mechanism that the European Union has proposed to facilitate trade with Iran.

It is regarded as a mechanism for EU members to keep doing business with Iran despite the US sanctions on Tehran.

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) English Desk Head of Atomic Energy Agency Ali Akbar Salehi expressed the hope that 'before it is too late, Europeans should fulfill what they have promised beforehand otherwise I am afraid that the future developments will not be conducive neither for us nor for them or even for other participants of the JCPOA.
