Iran world's leading country: Tatar scholar

Moscow, Jan 26, IRNA - Islamic Republic of Iran has become a leading country in the world thanks to self-reliance on its defense capabilities during the past four decades, a Russian university professor said.

In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), University professor and deputy chairman of the Academy of Sciences of the Tatarstan Republic of Russia Vadim Khomenko said Iran has attained great achievements in military, technology economic, energy as well as the petrochemical arenas.

After the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran adopted a policy of independence that just few countries in the world are capable of following, he added.

He commented that the Islamic Revolution terminated the West's hegemony in the region four decades ago and gave independence to Iran.

Khomenko underscored that the US who leads the west camp cannot achieve its one-sided policies and schemes in the Middle East due to the presence of Iran in the region.

At current situation, the US has been forced to change its regional policies and tactics sporadically, he added.

Commenting on the US decision to withdraw its troops from Syria, Khomenko stressed that the Syria's situation is not satisfying Washington, hence the US is changing its tactics in this country.

He added the western forces who have been dispatched to Syria to topple Damascus government have failed due to supports by Iran and Russia from this country.
