1.3 tons of drugs seized in SE Iran

Zahedan, Jan 24, IRNA – The Iranian police confiscated about 1.3 tons of narcotics in the city of Saravan, in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran, said the provincial police commander on Thursday.

'The police seized a band of traffickers that intended to transfer this large amount of narcotics to the central parts of Iran,' said Brigadier-General Mohammad Qanbari.

General Qanbari added that the police confiscated 826.9 kilograms of opium, 13.56 kilograms of heroin, 413.8 kilograms of hashish and 64.825 kilograms of other kinds of narcotics, which were loaded on a Totoya.

Two drug traffickers were arrested, and two Kalashnikovs with 5 magazines and 124 bullets were also confiscated, he added.

Iran as the country neighboring Afghanistan and Pakistan is a transit road for drug-traffickers. Many Iranian soldiers are killed every year in the fight against the ominous business.
