Islamic Revolution, a political shock to Americans: Iranian cmdr.

Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA – The victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution was a political shock to Americans because it changed all their equations, the head of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Army said on Wednesday.

Brigadier-General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan made the remarks speaking during a ceremony to commemorate 40-year achievements of the Iranian Army.

Noting that after the World War II, the world was divided between the US and the Soviet Union, he said that Iran was dominated by the US, having many advantages for the American leaders.

He said that controlling the energy market in the Persian Gulf, countering the Soviet Union in the north by means of radar systems and being a big market for American products were among the advantages of Iran for the United States.

One of the duties of the Iranian Army prior to the Islamic Revolution was to protect the throne of Shah, the commander said, adding that the Army also had to prevent regional countries from standing against the will of the US.

All these advantages were taken away from the US after the victory of the Islamic Revolution and therefore, they began plotting against the Islamic system from the very first day, Pourdastan said.

Referring to the achievements of the Army in protecting the borders and fighting Daesh terrorist group abroad, he said that Daesh is not fully demolished in Iraq and carries out terrorist operations in Diyala province once in a while.

He said that today nearly 6,000 Daesh terrorists have been deployed in Afghanistan with money coming from the UAE and Saudi Arabia to be used to put pressure on Iran and Russia.

They are not near the Iranian border, and the Army forces have full control over the eastern borders and if the terrorists do any act against Iran, they will receive harsh response, the commander said.
