Beijing-Tehran ties expanding over 40 years: Chinese expert

Beijing, Jan 23, IRNA- Director of Social and Cultural Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Lu Jin emphasized that China and Iran have expanded extensive mutual cooperation over past 40 years.

In an interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Lu Jin described the meeting between Iranian and Chinese leaders over the past few decades and the expansion of political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries as a sign of interest of the nations and governments of the two countries for sustainable growth of relationships.

She pointed to the trips of Iranian leaders, including the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution to China during his presidency and two visits of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, as well as China's President Xi Jinping visit to Tehran in 2016 as significant in direct exchanges between the two sides and added that this has led to the expansion of relations.

The expert stressed that Beijing and Tehran have different cooperation structures, including a joint advisory system and strategic relationship that has been formed on the basis of the efforts by the heads of state and foreign ministries.

The Chinese analyst emphasized that the two sides also have a joint economic commission, the meetings of which are scheduled to take place, and is one of the important structures for the development of trade and economic relations between China and Iran.

Lu said that despite the fact that China and Iran depended heavily on each other, said that China, in spite of America's efforts to isolate Iran, has always provided Tehran with economic assistance, which has given Iran more confidence in China. On the other hand, the past two decades, Tehran has been a major source of energy supply for China.

She said that since 2012, the United States has repeatedly tried to ban Iran, but failed to do so, and at the same time it did not succeed in hampering China and Iran's program of economic and commercial relations, and contrary to any idea, relations between the two countries have been steadily growing.
