Assassination suspect of Palestinian Hamas member arrested

Beirut, Jan 23, IRNA – An individual, who is suspected of assassinating Palestinian Hamas senior member Mohammad Hamdan, has been arrested in Lebanon, the Lebanese army said in a statement on Wednesday.

Hossein Ahmad Betu, suspected of assassinating Hamdan, was arrested in Sayda, southern Lebanon on Monday, Lebanese army said in its statement.

Ahmad Betu was responsible for gathering intelligence regarding planning assassination of the Hamas official, the statement read.

Lebanese army noted that the suspect has confessed that he had been working with the national intelligence agency of Israel (Mossad) since 2014.

The suspect said that a Mossad official outside Lebanon had provided him with communication equipment he needed to complete the job.
