Iran says ready to cooperate with Iraq in space tech

Tehran, Jan 22, IRNA - Iran is eager to help Iraq to reconstruct itself following years of deadly war and the US invasion; Iran's recent technological achievements in space are new opportunities for mutual cooperation.

Iran says its achievements in the field of space technology can be very practical for Iraq as well, stressing Tehran's readiness to cooperate with Baghdad.

'Iran's space accomplishments, including [building] remote-sensing satellites, can be used for Iraq given its current conditions,' Iranian Communications and Information Technology Minister Javad Azar Jahromi, told his Iraqi counterpart, Naeem Thjeel al-Rubaie, in Tehran on Tuesday.

The Iranian minister mentioned that his country has used its space technology to manage water resources, improve agriculture and environment.

Azari Jahromi stressd that Tehran is willing to expand cooperation with Iraq regarding space and other related issues. 'There are many fields where we can expand [our cooperation],' he added, highlighting Baghdad's moves to rebuild after years of war.

The minister emphasized that Iran is prepared to cooperate with Iraq to develop digital economy as well, saying Tehran is studying and devising plans in this field and given Iraq's young talents, there is a good opportunity to cooperate.

He proposed a joint working group between Iran and Iraq in a bid to cooperate in mobile and fixed line markets.

For his part, Iraqi miniser of communications said Baghdad needs to cooperate with Iran in ICT as his country has been left behind the global developments in this field.

Naeem Thjeel al-Rubaie added that Iranian companies can invest in optical fiber, third and fourth generations of mobile lines, internet bandwidth and other communication infrastructure.
