Pakistan seeking enhanced ties with Iran: Speaker

Islamabad, Jan 22, IRNA - Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Asad Qaiser says that Islamabad wants to enhance bilateral relations with Iran for economic and regional prosperity.

Pakistan shares a bond of friendship with Iran rooted in religion and culture, Qaiser said during a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost in the Pakistani capital on Tuesday.

Pakistan wants to enhance ties with Iran for economic and regional prosperity, he said.

Experiences of parliamentarians in the two neighboring nations can be enriched by parliamentary diplomacy and promotion of mutual ties, the Pakistani speaker added.

He stressed the need for cooperative measures on emergency basis by all South Asian countries to strengthen economy and alleviate unemployment.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, said Iran highly values its close ties with Pakistan.

Iran desires to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in different sectors, Honardoost said.

The two officials, besides discussing bilateral relations, examined regional peace and international issues during the meeting.

Pakistani Speaker Asad Qaiser visited Iran last month to participate in the 2nd Speakers Conference on Terrorism and Regional Connectivity in Tehran.
