Iran condemns arrest of Press TV reporter in US

Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Wednesday condemned the US for arrest of Press TV correspondent Marzieh Hashemi (Melanie Franklin) and called for her immediate and unconditional release.

Qasemi strongly condemned the illegal arrest of Press TV journalist and mistrating her by the US government in Washington.

The unexpected arrest of a US Muslim citizen and humiliating her and the inhuman behavior of the US government's white-collars in encountering her should be regarded as blatant misconduct of an apartheid regime with its white people, he said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran underlines that Mrs. Hashemi should take advantage of her legal and human rights and called for her immediate and unconditional release, he said.

Expressing regret over misbehavior of the US government in mistreating Press TV reporter, he said, Mrs. Hashemi went to the US to visit her family, but she was arrested.

Regrettably, she was deprived of any access or contact to outside the detention house for two days and misbehavior of the US white-collars to this Muslim-American national was blatant violation of human rights and rights of citizenship while ignoring legitimate rights of a Muslim woman, he said.

The misbehavior of the US government indicates that the US does not abide by any principles protecting rights of those criticizing the system and is now turned to a dangerous country for reporters.
