Iran stresses preserving Iraq national unity

Erbil, Jan 15, IRNA – Iranian foreign minister on Tuesday underlined preserving Iraq's national unity and sovereignty.

Iran attaches importance to national unity and sovereignty of Iraq, Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Rudaw Media Network based in Erbil.

Zarif said that Tehran has always done its best to boost relations with Baghdad and Erbil.

The Iranian minister lauded the formation of a united local government in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

Zarif described his meetings with the officials of Iraq and Kurdistan as positive.

After finishing his tour to Erbil, Zarif arrived in Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday.

Zarif is also scheduled to pay tribute to the late president of Iraq Jalal Talebani and to participate in Iran-Iraqi Kurdistan Region's business meeting.

On Wednesday, Iranian foreign Minister is scheduled to be in Karbala to attend the two countries' business meeting.

Zarif who arrived in Baghdad on January 13 has so far met some Iraqi officials, namely Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, President Barham Salih and Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Mohamed al-Halbousi.
