Iran’s Zarif pays tribute to Iraqi Talabani

Sulaymaniyah, Jan 15, IRNA - Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid tribute to the late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani by attending his tomb as a part of his trip to Arab country.

Upon his arrival to Sulaymaniyah, Zarif laid wreath of flower on the tomb of Talabani, who was also secretary-general of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan. Zarif announced that Iran had a common history with the Iraqi people, and especially Jalal Talabani.

The senior diplomat highlighted, 'Talabani was one of close friends of Iran, and he made lots of efforts in Iraq after Saddam to establish a new Iraq.'

On a joint economic meeting of the two countries in Sulaymaniyah, Zarif stressed that he had come to the region with a high-level delegation of businessmen to pave the way for the development of economic relations more than ever before.

Once laid wreath of flower on the tomb of Talabani and wrote a memorial note there, the Iranian foreign minister along with the Iraqi Kurdish delegation went to the hall of the economic summit of Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan in Sulaymaniyah.

Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Sunday afternoon and met with senior officials and political figures of the country during his two-day stay in the city.

He also gave speech at the major economic summit in Iran and Iraq, attended by hundreds of managers from hundreds of companies and economic activists from both countries in Baghdad.

The Foreign Minister will depart for Karbala on Wednesday and attend the big gathering of two countries economic activists in the city.
