Iran plays vital role in resolving regional disputes: Finnish Amb

Tehran, Jan 15, IRNA - Iran plays an important role in resolving regional disputes and the capacity of the Islamic Republic of Iran to reduce regional tensions must be used, Ambassador of Finland to Tehran Keijo Incio Norvanto stressed on Tuesday.

Norvanto, along with Edward Marcus, Project Manager for the Middle East and North Africa Program of the Finnish Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) in Tehran, met and conferred with Kazzem Jalali, head of the Center for Research of Iranian Parliament (Majlis) on Tuesday.

'Using the areas of mutual cooperation, we should take significant steps to promote the development of relations between the two countries,' the Ambassador of Finland to Tehran during the meeting while pointing to the interactions and cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Finland.

The top diplomat highlighted that the Finnish Crisis Management Initiative is working on the resolution of international conflicts through dialogue and is also seeking a dialogue with the region.

Head of Research Center of Iranian parliament Kazemi Jalali, for his part, referred to the visits and talks between officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Finland, reiterating, 'Good relations and dialogues have been established during bilateral meetings between the authorities, which we hope will enhance the level of bilateral cooperation.'

He described Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as one of the most important issues in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to its commitments in the international arena, especially to the JCPOA.

The MP clarified, 'Contrary to the positive actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran for adhering to its commitments in JCPOA, the United States has withdrawn from this agreement, while Europe has not yet reached a definitive conclusion on practical cooperation with Iran, and it is necessary for the EU to adopt the needed safeguards for the nuclear deal.

Jalali pointed to the problems that have arisen at the level of the countries of the region, and commented, “Dialogue is a desirable solution to the regional disputes, and the Islamic Republic of Iran from its onset emphasized the resolution of issues in countries like Syria and Yemen through dialogue, but among them, we must first understand the issues of the region and look for the root cause for each crisis.”
