Iran stresses support for regional peace, security

Baghdad, Jan 14, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a key note address in an economic conference in Baghdad outlined Iran's view with regards to characteristics of a secure and powerful region from the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Zarif made the remarks addressing an economic gathering held in Iraq with participation of hundreds of Iranian and Iraqi companies and in the presence of six Iraqi ministers.

From Iran's perspective, a stable and powerful region is where a country does not regard its security separate from those of its neighbors, Zarif said.

A powerful and secure region is where regards the development and success of its neighbors as its own, he said.

In a secure and powerful region, dialogue replaces war and cooperation will be replaced with arms race and brotherly relations will replace trust in aliens, he said.

In a secure and powerful region, all can rely on one another in order to create a better future for their countries, Zarif said.

Under such circumstance, establishment of bilateral or multi-lateral relations in the region will be much stronger than their relations with others, he said.

In such a region, regional nations will have a profound social and cultural communications and in the economic field, the role of the private sector will be very prominent, he said.

Iran sets no limit to further broaden and bolster relations with Iraq, Zarif said.

Zarif, heading a high-ranking delegation, is now in Iraq and has visited a number of Iraqi businessmen looking forward to broaden mutual cooperation with Iran.
