Iran stresses intra-Afghan dialogue to reduce tensions

Tehran, Jan 14, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday underlined dialogue among Afghan people to reduce tensions in the war-torn country.

Afghan government has been informed about Taliban visit to Iran, Bahram Qasemi said in a weekly press briefing.

He noted that the Afghan government should play the central role in the intra-Afghan dialogue for resolution of problems in the country.

Islamic Republic supports the peace process in Afghanistan, Qasemi added.

He said that the Afghan people, themselves should shape their destiny.

Taliban are seeking peace with the Afghan government and Iran is helping the process to promote stability and peace in the country, the secretary of Supreme National Security Council of Iran has said last Monday.

'Iran is peace-seeking and has no domineering intentions,' said Ali Shamkhani on the sidelines of the International Conference on Defense and Security in West Asia, held in the Supreme National Defense University in northern Tehran.
