Iran: US policy to create tension in region

Tehran, Jan 14, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that the anti-Iran visit of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was aimed at creating unrest and insecurity in the region.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Qasemi said that the policy of US president Donald Trump and Pompeo towards Iran is clear.

'Certainly, the US actions and behaviors are not as benevolent for region and will not be in favor of the people of the region, and they will try to create tensions and chaos in the region, and all their efforts have been to support the Zionist regime,' he added.

Qasemi went on to say that they have always tried to destroy the infrastructure of Muslim countries, and this achievement has not had any result, but the evil actions against the interests of the Islamic countries and the region.

The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry clarified, “Pompeo on his trips to the countries of the region is attempting to provoke hostility against Iran with his malicious accusations, but this policy has failed and once they come when Pompeo will not exist, but the Islamic Republic of Iran and its people will become more powerful.'

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qasemi called Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's resignation as groundless and psychological warfare, and emphasized that 'it is clear that a psychological war has begun against the Islamic Republic aimed at undermining Iran against the cruel measures of the US. This needs vigilance by the media'.
