Russia against Israel's intervention in Syria: Envoy

Beirut, Jan 24, IRNA- Russian Ambassador to Beirut Alexander Zasypkin on Monday condemned Israel's intervention in Syria.

In an interview with the Beirut-based daily al-Akhbar, Zasypkin noted that Israel launched raids against Syria under the pretext of Iran's presence in the Arab country.

However, he added, Iran and Russia cooperate to preserve Syria's sovereignty and to combat ongoing terrorism, .

The Russian top diplomat termed Washington's decision to withdraw its military forces from northern Syria as a major development which will help restore unity among Syrians.

With regard to US pressure on Arab countries to restore relations with Damascus, Zasypkin said the Americans and some Arab countries seek to break apart the Syrian-Iranian coalition and called it an irrational effort.

He called on the Arab countries to resume ties with Syria without setting any preconditions and to contribute to the reconstruction process with no prerequisite.
