1,200 ship sunken in Persian Gulf: Official

Tehran, Jan 11, IRNA- Deputy Director of Training Department at Iran’s Naval Force said there are 1200 sunken ships in the Persian Gulf, with 40 of them being gigantic.

Addressing the Second National Conference on Geography Education with a Water and Environmental Approach in the textbooks on Thursday, Admiral Parviz Salimi Panah said, 'These sunken ships with non-renewable fuel tanks and their load are destroying the sea, which the Navy has to remove them from water.'

He also said that more than 30 marine events occur in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea annually.

He described the activity of the Navy in environmental protection as follows, “This force, as a guardian of the sea, as soon as a ship is seen dumping garbage, immediately seizes it and hands it to the judicial authorities. It also checks all ships operating in different dimensions.'
