Some EU countries terrorist safe havens: Iran MP

Tehran, Jan 9, IRNA- Spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis (Iran Parliament) condemned on Wednesday the move by the Netherlands to sanction Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and two Iranian individuals.

Such actions are contrary to efforts made by the Europeans to set up the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Ali Najafi Khoshroudi said, referring to the financial mechanism expected to facilitate Iran's global commerce in the face of unilateral US sanctions against the country.

Some of the European countries that today are carrying out such measures are sheltering terrorists and members of the terrorist group Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO, aka MEK) notorious for conducting terrorist activities in Iran, Najafi Khoshroudi added.

What tends to be important for Iran in its engagement with European Union is the block's independent policy, he said.

'We hope the European Union to adopt the right policy in this regard and especially with regard to Washington's withdrawal from the Iran Deal, assume measures to guarantee in general Tehran's interests pertaining to the nuclear accord so that not result in Iran's distancing itself from Europe.

Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok alleged on Tuesday in a letter to the House of Representatives that the findings of the Dutch intelligence service indicate that Iran was involved in the assassination of two Iranian nationals living in the Netherlands in Almere in 2015 and in The Hague in 2017.

Referring to the EU anti-Iran sanctions, Blok argued that the two Iranian individuals and the Iranian Intelligence Ministry are on the list of sanctions, which means that funds and other financial assets of the Ministry of Intelligence and these two individuals have been blocked.
