Iran soon to make important decisions on security cooperation with Europe

Tehran, Jan 9, IRNA – Islamic Republic of Iran is to reconsider its intelligence and security cooperation with European countries and will soon make important decisions in this field, according to an informed diplomatic source.

Following the sanctioning of an Iranian institution and two Iranian individuals by the European Union on Tuesday, six European diplomats were summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the source said, adding they tried to justify EU’s decision but they received harsh reaction from the Iranian side and as the reasons were not acceptable, the meeting ended in less than 10 minutes.

'Following the EU's move in sanctioning an Iranian institution and two (Iranian) people, six European ambassadors and chargé d'affaires attended foreign ministry, trying to justify the EU's stances; however, they faced harsh reaction of the authority they met. Since their (the European ambassadors' and charge d'affaires') claims were not acceptable and used inappropriate literature, the meeting ended within less than 10 minutes,' according to the official.

The source went on to say that given the European countries’ support for quite known terrorist groups, Iran is to reconsider intelligence and security cooperation with the countries.

'Due to European states' support for the distinguished terrorist groups and continuing to provide the terrorist elements with shelter, the Islamic Republic of Iran is busy evaluating and reconsidering its intelligence, security and disciplinary cooperation with European countries.'

The source said important decisions will soon be made in that connection.

'… and decisions will soon be made on the issue, covering important domains,' announced the official.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi had said that Iran will take due action within framework of the reciprocal move.
