Official says removal of transit tariffs will help boost Iran-Afghanistan trade

Tehran, Jan 8, IRNA – Reduction or removal of transit tariffs between Iran and Afghanistan is of special significance and can prove influential in improving the level of Tehran-Kabul trade exchanges, head of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization said on Tuesday.

Abdolhashem Hassannia made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with Afghanistan’s ambassador to Tehran.

He urged both Iranian and Afghan officials to promote transportation cooperation, construct the second Milak Bridge and activate multilateral international corridors.

Hassannia noted that development of the Iranian southeastern Port of Chabahar can play a key role in expansion of trade between Iran and Afghanistan.

The Afghan ambassador, for his part, expressed hope that with an agreement among the presidents of Iran, India and Afghanistan, the Port of Chabahar will gain an extra-regional position which will be further enhanced with increased investments, transit of commodities and joining to Central Asian and other regional countries.
