Sanctions not able to impede Iran’s cement exports: Official

Tehran, Jan 8, IRNA – Reinstated sanctions on Iran’s economy have not been able to hinder the country’s cement exports, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade for Mining Affairs said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Jafar Sarqeini ruled out reports, which claimed Iran’s cement exports have been halted. He added that the sanctions have just created some obstacles on the way of financial transactions and return of money to the country.

He said that Iran’s cement industry is capable of meeting the needs of domestic market and has up to 20 million tons a year exports capacity given that it has previously registered 19 million tons of exports a year.

Today the capacity of the country’s cement production has reached 87.5 million tons and another 10 million tons is underway to add to the country’s capacity, the official said.

He said that the country’s production capacity is envisaged to reach 120 million tons by 2025. However, he added that for the recession in the mining sector, production has always been lagging behind capacity.
