Iran FM to visit India on Monday: Foreign Ministry

Tehran, Jan 6, IRNA – Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Sunday that the country's top diplomat Mohammad Javad Zarif, is expected to visit India on Monday.

Foreign minister Zarif will lead a high-ranking political and economic delegation during the three-day visit to India, Qasemi said.

A number of top managers from Iran's public and private sectors will also accompany the Iranian foreign minister, he said.

Zarif and his entourage are scheduled to attend the Iran-India joint economic meeting as well.

In addition to cultural similarities, that makes inevitable expansion of cooperation between Iran and India, Tehran along with New Delhi and Kabul are working together to develop Iran's southern port city of Chabahar.

Chabahar is considered to have a very strategic status and it can link India to Afghanistan while it could provide India access to other regional countries, including Central Asian nations.
