Southern Iran quake leaves no casualties

Bushehr, Jan 6, IRNA – The 4.7-magnitude tremor which rocked Khormoj City, southern province of Bushehr on Sunday left no casualties or damages to properties, a local official said.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Bushehr Governor Abdollah Naderi said al recue forces are on alert in the accident site.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 08:18 hours local time (4:48 GMT) and at the depth of 17 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 28.61 degrees latitude and 51.59 degrees longitude.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
