Yemenis condemn frequent violations of truce

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA – Yemeni people staged rallies condemning repeated breach of ceasefire by the Saudi-led coalition, calling for the opposing party’s compliance with the Sweden peace deal.

According to Al-Massira News Network, demonstrators chanted slogans to denounce violation of truce and continuation of air and artillery strikes on residential areas.

Deputy Governor of Al-Hodeidah Mohamed Ayyash Qahim attending the rallies, called for implementing ceasefire deal and exit of the opposing party from the port city.

People of Al-Hodeidah will never accept presence of the aggressors in the province, he said.

“We favor dignified and brave peace and our today’s peace is peace of friendship, but we are ready for any option,” he said.

Coordination committee for overseeing ceasefire is not the committee of dialogue and consultation on the clauses of Sweden peace agreement; rather it should enforce it, he said.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating military campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the aim of bringing the government of fugitive president, Mansour Hadi, back to power and crushing the country’s Houthi Ansarullah Movement.

Some 16,000 Yemenis have been killed and thousands more injured since the onset of the Saudi-led aggression.

More than 85,000 children have died of hunger during the war against Yemeni people.

The two sides recently signed a ceasefire agreement in Stockholm, Sweden, but there have been numerous reports of truce breaches by the Saudi-led coalition.
