10 UAE mercenaries killed in Yemen

Tehran, Jan 4, IRNA - At least 10 people were killed in a clash between militants under the protection of the UAE and the tribes of al-Shabwa province in southeastern Yemen, sources said on Friday.

Qatar's Al-Jazeera news network, without details, said that among the dead were several Yemeni mercenary commanders affiliated to the United Arab Emirate (UAE).

Meanwhile, local sources reported that Emirates fighters also participated in the conflict.

Analysts believe that the movements of the UAE and the militants to Abu Dhabi in southern Yemen are in line with its ambitious goals for targeting oil fields in the southern provinces of Yemen.

Bypassing Saudi Arabia in the Yemeni war in 2016, the UAE formed its militant groups in southern Yemen that attacked the houses of the people and arrested them and then tortured them in detention centers.

Although the primary goal of the formation of these militias was war with al-Qaeda group, their role was broadened and included all those opposed to the presence of the UAE in Yemen.
