400,000 chemically injured war veterans in Iran

Tehran, Jan 4, IRNA – There are about 400,000 chemically injured war veterans in Iran, Director General of the Chemically Injured Affairs Department of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Mohammad-Reza Sediqi said on Friday.

Sediqi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the group of war veterans is chemically injured between five and 70 percent and medication services are underway for them.

He said the veterans suffer eye, respiratory and skin injuries as a result of intoxication by chemical gases.

There are a total of 574,101 war disabled in Iran, 59 percent or 336,282 of whom suffer less than 25 percent chemical injury and 41 percent or 237,819 suffer injury more than 25 percent.
