Iran police arrests 678 smugglers at airports

Tehran, Jan 1, IRNA – Referring to 78% increase in narcotics discovery in Iranian airports, airport police chief said 678 smugglers were arrested at Iranian airports within November-December.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday, Brigadier General Hassan Mehri said 55 of the smugglers were women

One of the smugglers was from Bolivia and had brought cocaine to Iran.

He went on to say that 97kg narcotics were discovered using equipment and sniffer dogs.

The figure showed 7.5% increase compared with the figure in the same period last year, he noted.

Most of the drugs were found in Imam Khomeini International Airport, Mashhad and Isfahan Airports respectively, Iranian police commander said.

Eight smugglers were from other countries and the most important one was from Bolivia who carried 2.800 kg cocaine from Bolivia to Dubai and then to Isfahan, Mehri said.
