Textile exports increases by 40%

Yazd, Dec 26, IRNA – An Iranian trade official says that Iran’s textile production has increased by 2 percent while its exports have grown 40 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2018).

7,900 textile production units and 260,000 people are currently active in Iran’s textile industry, said the Director General of Textile and Clothing Department at the Ministry of Industries, Mines, and Trade Afsaneh Mehrabi in the inaugural ceremony of a specialized textile and carpet exhibition which was held in Iran’s central city of Yazd on Tuesday.

Referring to the steps that the government has taken in recent years, she stressed that the related officials are determined to smooth the way for producers to increase exports.

The government’s decision to ban the imports of some goods made an opportunity for domestic producers to increase exports amid recent difficulties in the currency market.

Referrig to the Yazd province’s 27 percent share in Iran’s textile production, she said currently 662 textile production units with official operating certificate are active throughout the province and by taking into account the number of related industrial units, the figure reaches to 4,309, said the head of Industries, Mines, and Trade Organization of Yazd Provice Mohammad-Reza Alamdar who also made a speech during the ceremony.

He added that more than 100,000 people are currently active in Yazd Province’s textile production units and the full implementation of 1,000 under construction projects adds another 30,000 to the number of the employed in the industry.

Since the start of industrial textile production in Iran since 1925, Yazd Province has played important role in Iran’s textile production and is currently the second textile manufacturer in Iran after Mazandaran Province.
