“Cooperating with local communities to restore the Urmia Lake is one of the important projects to revive this ecosystem that has started in 2014 in 19 villages of this town,” said Ali Dianati on the margins of the visit on Monday.

“The projects aim at agricultural water management in target villages with the aid of local communities,” he added.

Head of the United Nations Development Program and charge d’affaires of Japan who traveled to Western Azarbaijan Province to take part in an exhibition held to display the achievements of ULRP in sustainable agriculture and the participation of local communities also accompanied Dianati during the visit.

Orumiyeh Lake, world's sixth largest saltwater lake, has been facing drought crisis since the past two decades and 80 percent of its covering area dried out until 2015.
