Malayer’s grapes globally registered

Hamedan, Dec 1, IRNA – The representative of Iran’s Malayer in Majlis (Iranian Parliament) says that the city’s grapes has been registered in Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS).

Speaking to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohammad Kazemi said that the registration of Malayer’s grapes is a national achievement and can help the local economy.

Malayer is located in west of Iran in Hamedan province.

He added that the representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) travelled to Malyer in mid-October to evaluate the grapes according to submitted proposals, and they will officially announce the registration soon.

He named introducing Malayer’s agricultural and industrial potentials as the city’s governmental organizations top priority.

Kazemi added that Malayer’s woodcarving is nominated for global registration.

GIAHS is a global program aimed at identifying and protecting Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems and their associated landscapes, agricultural biodiversity and knowledge systems.
