Sino-Iranian ties warmer than neighbors: Official

Beijing, Nov 28, IRNA - Deputy director of the Center for Interreligious Dialogue and Civilization of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) underlined that while China and Iran are not neighbors and are thousands of miles apart, the relations between the two countries are warmer than two neighbors.

Morteza Sabouri made the remarks in the second round of talks between Islam and Daoism in Beijing on Wednesday while referring to historical links between Iran and China in different fields.

Sabouri said the two countries have always had close ties in many fields, which is why the Center for Interreligious Dialogue and Civilization of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization has also tried to establish close relations with ancient Chinese faiths.

Pointing to the commonalities between Islam and Daoism, he said, 'The concepts of teachings of Islam and Daoism show that the two religions are very similar to each other, and they believe that people need the existence of God and must have a significant effort to reach God.'

According to him, the suffering and violence in the world is arising from sensual passions, which Daoism like as Islam, calls for the destruction of desires to get rid of pain and suffering.

He called on the most important mission of the Center for Interreligious Dialogue and Civilization, recognizing different religions and cultures, adding, 'It has entered dialogue with other religions for more than three decades, and so far we have discussed with different religions and centers such as the Vatican, the Orthodox Church, Hinduism, Buddhism and Shintoism and Protestantism.
