Over one ton of narco busted in SE Iran

Zahedan, Nov 28, IRNA - One ton and 496 kilos of opiates have been seized in Khash in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, a police chief said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Qanbari said law enforcement agents identified a drug trafficking ring that was transferring the haul into the country.

An armed clash broke out between the smugglers and the police leading to the killing of two smugglers and arrest of three others, Qanbari added.

Referring to the role of the residents in identifying and arresting smugglers, the police chief appreciated tip-offs from the public.

Khash is located 185 kilometers south of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province.
