Zarif stresses importance of intellectual property

Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underscored the importance of intellectual property in a knowledge-based economy.

During a meeting in Geneva on Tuesday evening with the Chief Executive Officer of the World Intellectual Property Organization Francis Gurry, Zarif emphasized the importance of the intellectual property.

He also said Iran is planning to move from an oil-and-gas based economy to a knowledge-based one.

Iran's top diplomat highlighted the necessity of multilateralism in the international arena.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iranian foreign minister described unilateral measures and illegal sanctions as destructive to developing science and technology.

Meanwhile, Gurry presented a report on the latest international procedures in intellectual property field.

He also pointed to the most important challenges in the international community and appreciated Iran as an active and constructive member in international bodies and multilateralism.
