Economic cooperation mechanism with Iran basis of Russian, European consultations

Moscow, Nov 21, IRNA - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that Moscow is consulting with the European Union regarding the establishment of a special mechanism for economic cooperation with Iran.

“European partners have not yet been able to find adequate plan to implement and legally regulate the mechanism”, Ryabkov added to Tass news agency on Wednesday.

He added, “For the same reason, mechanism did not start its implementation concurrent with implementation of the new package of sanctions against Iran on Nov. 5.”

'But what matters is that Europe has not abandoned the idea and we will continue to confer with European officials and Iranian friends on the issue,' the senior Russian diplomat noted.

'This is one of the acts and our common approaches and the European Union to defend the JCPOA and prevent it from destroying it,' Ryabkov said.

'We adhere to this document,” he said, adding, 'And we believe that it is doing its duty to ensure transparency in the nuclear program of Iran at a higher level with guarantees.'

He said that there are problems in providing economic concessions to Iran within the framework of JCPOA and we have to redouble our efforts to achieve our goal in this arena.
