Tehran, Moscow have potential for promoting cultural ties

Saint Petersburg, Nov 17, IRNA - Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei says Iran and Russia as two countries representing great culture and civilization can have further cooperation in the domain of culture.

Sanaei, who has traveled to the cultural capital of Russia to participate in the Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum, made the remarks in a speech at the Manuscripts Institute of the Russian Academy of Science.

In recent years, he said, Saint Petersburg has played host to many interesting programs the most important of which was the 2018 world cup which attracted a large number of Iranian football fans and tourists.

Referring to the current visit to Saint Petersburg of Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Abbas Salehi, he expressed hope the visit would give an impetus to cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Salehi met with Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky after attending the inaugural ceremony of an international cultural forum in Saint Petersburg and discussed with him Tehran-Moscow cultural cooperation.

The 7th Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum opened in the Russian cultural capital Thursday, attended by the culture ministers of various countries, senior political officials and representatives of international organizations.

St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum is a unique cultural event of the world level, a discussion platform, which attracts annually several thousand cultural experts from all over the world.

The forum is held by the Government of St. Petersburg with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
