Moradi, Hashemi on top of the 96, 102kg world weightlifting championships

Tehran, Oct 31, IRNA - The final list of weightlifters participating in 2018 World Championships was announced while Iran is participating with an eight-player composition, while Sohrab Moradi and Ali Hashemi are the top leaders in the 96 and 102-kilogram categories.

World Weightlifting Championships will be officially launched in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Thursday with 321 men from 75 countries and in the women's section there will be 283 athletes from 71 countries.

These competitions will be held for the first time in new weights; namely 55, 61, 67, 73, 81, 89, 96, 102, 109 and +109 kilograms.

Last night, with the announcement of the final list of weightlifters, eight Iranian weightlifters were announced while Mohammad Zarei, Alireza Soleimani and Homayoun Teimouri were not on the list.

Accordingly, the Aref Khaki is the only Iranian weightlifter in 86 kg. Seven other weightlifters are in group A.

The names of Sohrab Moradi, Ali Hashemi, Reza Biralvand and Mohammad Reza Barari are among the top three of their category.

Iran's national weightlifting team was the world champion for the first time in the United States last year. But the 2018 World Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, will take place while 9 countries of Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Armenia, Ukraine, China and Moldova after the one-year ban due to a doping along with North Korea are participating this year, and certainly the level of world championships will increase dramatically, and the national team will face a very difficult task.
